Elder Lee Michaels

Born in the inner city and raised in public housing his humble beginnings echoed the saying, “It’s not where you start but where you finish that counts.” Things began to change for Lee on May 23, 1975 when he enlisted in the USAir Force. After six honorable years of service, Lee then enrolled at Coppin State College in Computer Management.
Around his junior year the call of destiny became so strong that he changed career pursuits and enrolled in the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland. There he discovered he had a tremendous passion for radio where he placed on the President's list, and was the first to receive a job out of a class of 48.

Lee then began his career in broadcasting in 1979 at WCEM/WESP-FM in Cambridge, MD and 1981, moved to WEBB radio. By 1983 he moved on to what was the first all G ospel radio station in Baltimore, WBGR 860 AM. It was there that Lee endeavored to learn all aspects of radio from broadcast programming, promotions, marketing and sales.
On a blistery cold day in February 1988, he locked himself in the studio for 24 hours and raised $63,000 toward the plight for the homeless. As sales manager at WBGR he established new sales revenue standards. He also organized many community events including the first Juneteenth (freedom day) celebration in Baltimore, which drew over 10,000 people to Druid Hill Park.
